Early 2000s Trends Making a Comeback

Ah, the early 2000’s! There was Britney and Justin, Destiny’s Child, Bring It On…and a whole lot of questionable clothing. Oddly enough though, those pesky fashion trends have sneaked their way back into our lives…and we kind of, sort of, don’t hate it?

Here are a few 2000’s fashion trends you’ll most definitely see being worn around your city for years to come.

LOW RISE JEANS

As a high-waisted jeans kind of girl, this trend makes me nervous. You likely either love low rise jeans or hate them, but you can’t deny they’re a statement piece. For those who are ready to revive this trend, here are a

few ways to style them…

Pull a page from the early 2000s and add some flashy belts, or go monochrome like Bella Hadid in an acid wash pair. If you have somewhere to be, add a blazer for a casual but professional touch. Whatever you choose, all eyes will be on you, and for good reason: you’ll look stunning.

BANDANAS

Bandanas are near and dear to my heart. In fact, I had a drawer full of them when I was younger. They’re coming back and in a big way. The best part is they’re multifunctional! You can turn them into a cute crop-top, use them as a straight across headband like J.LO, or fold one into a head-scarf. Play around with fun patterns and fabrics or add some cute sequins…there’s really no way to go wrong with these.

MINI BAGS

We’ve done it! We’ve successfully lived long enough to see mini bags resurface. They were all over red carpets in the early 2000’s adorning the hands of celebrities like Kelly Rowland and Paris Hilton, and most recently we saw them at the 2019 AMA’s on Lizzo. Granted, Lizzo may have taken “mini bag” to a whole new level, but you can’t deny fashion is fashion. Contrary to the backlash she may have received, I love how bold she went with this statement piece.

TINTED GLASSES

Tinted glasses are a perfect way to spice up your eyewear, and with their resurgence, there are plenty of shapes, sizes, and brands to choose from. Whether you find a color that makes your eyes pop or find a frame to match your outfit, the pop of color will look divine. If you decide to play around with shape, note that a rounder frame tends to soften your features, while a more angular pair may accentuate cheekbones a bit more.

Whether you choose to shop around for a few of these fashion trends or simply chuckle at the sight of them, remember that fashion is always evolving. In the words of Anna Wintour: “Create your own style… let it be unique for yourself and yet identifiable for others”.
